Changes have been introduced with respect to property leased to Non-Maltese Nationals applying for a residence document.
Number of Residents
Legal Notice 197 of 2024 introduced a limitation on the number of residents who may occupy a leased dwelling house. The use of a dwelling house leased to multiple residents who are not living together as a family, regardless of whether the entire dwelling or individual residential spaces are leased is allowed.
However, the number of residents allowed to lease the same property varies with the number of bedrooms and bathrooms in the said property, as outlined below. To ensure that this is enforced, the Authority will ask the lessor to provide the number of bedrooms and bathrooms in the leased dwelling house. Any declaration by the lessor that does not comply with the Schedule will be deemed a false declaration.
